The Comeback of the Hair Accessory

The Comeback of the Hair Accessory

Hair accessories: they’re constantly going in and out of fashion (just take the love-it-or-hate-it scrunchie, for example). Fashion can indeed be a fickle thing. However, after last season’s hair accessory revival, we’re happy to say that mane-adorning trinkets are set to stick around for spring/summer 2014, with a fashion-forward new-season update. The comeback of the hair accessory is still in full swing, people! So read on to find out what all the best-dressed tresses will be wearing over the next few months…

The comeback of the hair accessory: Floral accents

The ~Comeback of the Hair Accessory

Girly girls and bohemian beauties everywhere, thank your lucky stars - floral hair accessories are back with a vengeance! From teeny-tiny flower accents to full-on head-covering creepers, blooms of all shapes and sizes invaded the SS14 catwalks during Fashion Week. Springing up like, well, daisies, betwixt the locks of models during a number of shows, hair-based posies are set to be a blossoming (see what we did there?) new year hair trend.

Dolce & Gabbana’s models paraded the runways wearing Roman crown-inspired floral headwear, while Honor went for unusual, minute forget-me-not stickers. Jenny Packham’s floral eye-candy came in the form of pretty flower barrettes, and Zac Posen also championed the flower girl look with fluttery white-petalled hair pins.

The comeback of the hair accessory: Gold

The Comeback of the Hair Accessory

Lovers of shiny things will be glad to hear that, by Fashion Week royal decree, we’ll all be making like magpies this season and swooping for golden hair accessories. Although many of the catwalk’s shimmering hair adornments may not translate too well to the high street (Dries Van Noten and Lela Rose, we’re looking at you), we’re still convinced that more conventional golden hair ornaments will be a major trend this season.

Jason Wu’s gilded barrettes and Elie Saab’s metallic headbands were perhaps the most wearable of Fashion Week’s golden hair accessories, fitting in seamlessly with this season’s trend for sleek, minimalistic hair. On the other hand, although they’re breathtakingly beautiful, we can’t see Dries Van Noten’s gold-bedecked partings or Lela Rose’s snowflake-like smatterings of gold leaf making their way onto our heads any time soon.

The comeback of the hair accessory: Headbands

The Comeback of the Hair Accessory

With headbands practically swamping SS14’s Fashion Week runways, it seems 2014 is the year we’ll be reigniting our love affair with the classic, Blair Waldorf-approved hair accessory. With many ways to wear this versatile hair veteran, we’re sure there’s a new-season headband out there to suit everyone.

Victoria Beckham’s Fashion Week headbands came in the form of simple, thick black hair ribbons, while Tanya Taylor amped up the bling-factor with jewel-encrusted, halo-like bands. Colourful, and tied up in floppy bows, Alexis Mabille’s headbands came with a playful twist, and, in contrast, models at Valentino wore almost belt-like headbands made of leather.

We can’t wait for SS14’s new wave of hair-adorning beauties to hit the shelves! Are you as thrilled by the comeback of the hair accessory as we are?
