How To Cure An Itchy Scalp

7-hacks-cure-an-itchy-scalp-milk-and-blush There’s nothing more irritating than an itchy scalp and it can seriously kill your vibe and your hairstyle, if you’re constantly scratching. Turns out it could be down to some simple mistakes, like using way too much product or not looking out for bad ingredients. To help you guys out we’re sharing our best tips for curing an itchy scalp along with a few super helpful products too.

Switch To A Sulphate Free Shampoo

Switching to a sulphate free shampoo could be the easiest place to start when it comes to beating an irritated scalp. Shampoos that contain sulphates can strip too much oil from your skin and really dry it out. Just like the skin on your face, this can start to irritate it overtime until it becomes super itchy. To fix this fix your current shampoo for the OGX Renew Argan Oil Shampoo, which will gently cleanse and moisturise your hair without being too harsh. 7-hacks-cure-an-itchy-scalp-milk-and-blush 7-hacks-cure-an-itchy-scalp-milk-and-blush

Avoid Silicones

Silicones are polymers that are used in hair products to coat your strands and make them look really shiny. The only problem with this is that they can build-up on your scalp which over time can start to irritate your skin if you don’t remove all the excess product. Dimethicones are the worst culprit as they’re a really heavy silicone, so if this is on the bottle it’s definitely worth avoiding. Instead go for a silicone free styling product like the OUAI Rose hair and body oil which will make your hair look just as shiny without the damage. 7-hacks-cure-an-itchy-scalp-milk-and-blush

Exfoliate Your Scalp

Excess product, sebum and dead skin cells can build-up on your scalp and could be the reason why it’s feeling super itchy. If this is the case and you’re noticing that your roots are greasy too, then the best shout would be to exfoliate. Scalp exfoliators help to remove all the build-up so that your follicles are clean, refreshed and able to grow healthy hair. One of our favourites is the Umberto Giannini Grow Scrub which is made with caffeine to stimulate hair growth while cleansing your scalp.

Moisturise

If the itchiness goes hand in hand with a tight feeling then it could be because your scalp is really, really dry. Overusing products or over cleansing your skin could be the culprit but just like the skin on your face, some people are just more prone to it. The best way to combat this is by massaging a little bit of natural oil into your scalp every few days. You don’t want to use a lot, but just take a pea size amount of argan or coconut oil and gently work it in to combat any dry patches. 7-hacks-cure-an-itchy-scalp-milk-and-blush 7-hacks-cure-an-itchy-scalp-milk-and-blush

Go Easy On The Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is exactly what it says on the bottle, dry. Combine this with all the excess buildup it leaves on your scalp and you’ve got the best environment for irritated skin. We’re not saying that you can’t use it but try and limit it to once or twice a week rather than everyday if your scalp is feeling irritated.

Treat Dandruff

If your scalp is really flaky then it’s likely because you have dandruff. Dandruff is a result of an overly oily scalp which binds your dead skin cells together and creates those pesky flakes. Luckily, dandruff is really easy to fix with the right shampoo, so it’s a quick and easy problem to fix. Head & Shoulders is the oldest and the best shampoo for beating dandruff, so we’d definitely recommend this if you have it.

Brush Your Hair

Brushing your scalp will help to encourage the shedding of dead skin cells leaving your scalp way fresher while helping to beat dandruff too. This is also great if you don’t have a time to exfoliate as it’s way quicker and doesn’t require any prep. Just make sure you use something gentle, like a loop brush or Tangle Teezer that won’t pull on your strands. We hope this post will help to cure your itchy scalp for good!
