2013 was the year that celebrities and models alike threw caution to the wind and lopped off their lustrous lengths in favour of shorter, chic-as-you-like bobs and lobs. But if you thought short styles were merely a passing phenomenon, think again - they’re set to be sticking around for 2014, so there’s still plenty of time to get in on the action!
However, the eternal question remains: bob or lob? If you can’t choose which you’d prefer, take a look at some of these celebrity styles for inspiration!
We can always rely on Camilla Belle to provide us with some seriously lustworthy bob-based inspo, and we reckon this curly little number is one of the actress’ best hairstyles to date. Thick, sideswept and chin-grazing, this short ‘do complements Camilla’s delicate features perfectly - and it looks just fab alongside those legendary eyebrows.
Julianne Hough shocked us all when she traded in her trademark long waves for a short, sleek bob, but she pulled off the change with aplomb, becoming a major pioneer of the short hair trend. This straight style was natural, shiny and the epitome of laid-back, casual chic. When you’ve got such mesmerising baby blues, there’s clearly no need to hide them behind long locks!
Karlie Kloss’ short, tousled bob was one of the most iconic hairstyles of 2013 - and we Dirty Looks girls are pleased to see that Karlie’s sticking with her trend-setting ‘do as we move into 2014. Girly, yet unfussy and just a tad asymmetrical, this mousy hair masterpiece has had us contemplating hitting the hairdresser’s for a while now!
There’s sometimes a very thin line between bob territory and lob land, but we think Kerry Washington’s delightful, slightly grown out, straightened ‘do belongs firmly in the ‘lob’ category. Kerry’s subtle highlights, wispy bangs and pretty purple eyeshadow make this low-maintenance look work for the red carpet - and we love it!
She’s been championing the lob for a while now, and we reckon that this highlighted, lazily tousled ‘do of Rose Byrne’s is pure shoulder-length perfection. The overall look is part Aussie surfer girl, and part straight-off-the-catwalk, but Rose manages to combine the two seamlessly. Plus, the shortness of the style makes her hair look luxuriously thick, too!
Let’s face it, Lily Collins would look fabulous if she had no hair at all, but this wavy lob has to be one of her biggest hair-based achievements yet. The perfect compromise for those of us that long for a stylish, bang on trend look but don’t want to commit to too-short hair, this side-parted, romantic style is at the top of all of our wishlists here at Dirty Looks HQ.
So, which style do you think is the winner in the showdown between bobs and lobs? We’d love to know!
