Not only does October mark the beginning of autumn, it also means that one of the most frivolous months on the fashion calendar has come to an end. Before we wallow in a fashion comedown, take a look at the top spring/summer ‘14 hair trends to emerge from Paris Fashion Week. Now that's something to get excited about!
Notes of the 80s have been everywhere this month. From Giorgio Armani’s mop of curls and Madonna side flicks at Emilio Pucci at Milan Fashion Week, fashion houses took inspiration from the pop icons of the decade. However, Paris offered a different perspective on the 80s hair trend by delving into the art movement of the time. Many designers used abstract prints in the designs which were also reflected in the makeup too. Thick strokes were painted onto the brows at Celine and teamed with scraped back hair, whilst slicked back, wet look tresses coincided with the theme of sharp silhouettes and graphic blocks at Rouland Mouret. This is one hair trend we just can’t seem to shake away from each summer!
Wet Look Hair<H/3>
Wet look hair seems to be the norm for next season. Not only was it a repeated trend at London Fashion Week, Paris has also latched on to the androgynous hairstyle for ss14. Whilst wet look roots helped to define Rouland Mouret’s ss14 collection, the slicked back style enhanced the desired sports luxe feel of Anthony Vaccarello’s ss14 show. Hair was casually given a run through of a water based serum and left to hang smoothly down the back of models’ heads, giving this ss14 hair trend a modern take for next summer.
Severe Side Partings
One hair trend we’re pleased to see the return of are side partings. The simple, yet transformable hairstyle was given a new spring of life at the Stella McCartney ss13 show, as models hair was parted on the side. The models were also given severe side partings at the Dries Van Noten ss14 show, which complemented the collection’s modest aesthetic perfectly.
Amongst the clean, smooth locks and sultry side partings, there was a spout of madness that came from Paris Fashion Week in the form of crazy hair. Models were theatrical 1930s dolls, with dishevelled, teased updos at Rochas, whilst windswept mohawks dominated the Manish Arora catwalk. However, this is one hair trend we still need convincing for ss14!
Out of all the hair trends to emerge from the fashion capitals over the past month, the one that has really struck a chord with us for ss14 is natural hair. We’re so excited to be able to give our locks a break next summer and go au naturel during the spelt of sunshine. Carven, Nina Ricci and Paco Rabanne are just a few designers to name who expressed their love for this glorified hair trend. Balmain went one step further as Olivier Rousteing teamed natural hair with natural beauty, sending Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Georgia May Jagger down the runway with barely-there makeup. We’re not jealous at all!
Now that Paris Fashion Week is over, we can’t wait for spring 2014 to come around so that we can give these hairstyles a twirl! Which hair trends are you looking forward to playing around with next year?
