Having difficulty clipping in your hair extensions? Don’t know where each weft goes? Don’t panic as we have the definitive guide to how to apply clip in hair extensions and achieve that natural finish look we all desire when wearing hair extensions.
Unlike other brands, our hair extensions are numbered. That means that each weft is labelled with a number from one to eight, which coincides with the Dirty Looks fitting guide that’s found in your hair extensions booklet and online here. You’ll also notice that our clips are made with silicone and have a rubber backing to help prevent the wefts from sliding out of your hair.
So, now that you have your clip in hair extensions and tools at the ready, let’s get started!
First, brush your hair with a paddle brush to get rid of any knots and tangles. Then section the hair at the nape of the neck and clip in weft number one near the hairline. Find the centre of the hair first and clip in the middle clip and follow with the left and right clip. A great tip for making sure that your clips don’t slide down is to backcomb and hairspray the roots of the section to create a strong grip for the clips to grip onto. This is super beneficial for girls with finer hair, too.
Section the hair from the top of your ear upwards and clip in weft number two by opening the clips up, finding the centre and clipping the middle clip, then left and right clips into the hair. Repeat the same step by sectioning the hair and clipping in weft number three and four above one another.
Once you have finished clipping in the wefts at the back, it’s now time to apply clip in hair extensions to the sides of your head. To do this, section the hair at eye level and clip in weft number five and seven on either side. Then continue to section the hair above the weft you have just clipped in to clip in wefts six and eight and nine and ten (which aren’t numbered). These two last wefts aren’t numbered and don’t have to be clipped in if unneccessary. Another great tip for how to apply clip in hair extensions is to layer the wefts on the side at an angle, as this will create natural shape around the face and help to blend your shorter layers with your hair extensions.
